Bet of Rs 100 turns fatal: UP man drowns while attempting to cross pond

A 45-year-old man drowned while attempting to cross a pond after wagering Rs 100 with his companions during a drinking session in Jhansi. The man, who was a regular drinker, got entangled in submerged vegetation. His body was later retrieved by a police rescue team with the help of divers.

JHANSI: A 45-year-old man drowned while attempting to cross a pond on Saturday afternoon after wagering Rs 100 with his companions during a drinking session.
The incident occurred in Poonawikalan village under Raksa police station area where Uttam Rajput was consuming liquor with two associates near a pond.
During their drinking session, Uttam, a regular drinker, bragged about his swimming abilities and was subsequently challenged by his companions to cross the pond for a Rs 100 wager.
Uttam accepted the challenge and plunged into the pond but got entangled in submerged vegetation midway and drowned.
A police rescue team with the help of divers retrieved his body.
Station officer Raksa police station Parmendra Singh said the cause of death was drowning.
